Katie Boulter exchanges playful barb with fiancé Alex De Minaur after Australian's victory at Canadian Open

Tennis star Alex De Minaur won one of the points of the tournament during his round of 16 encounter with Frances Tiafoe at the Canadian Open, leading to some playful back-and-forth between the Aussie and fiancée, WTA player Katie Boulter on social media after the match.

The Sydney native faced Tiafoe after receiving a walkover victory in the third round, due to compatriot Chris O'Connell withdrawing from their third round clash due to injury. Despite a spirited comeback from Tiafoe, De Minaur was able to overcome his American opponent as he recorded a 6-2 4-6 6-4 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

De Minaur is scheduled to face another American in the final eight, as Ben Shelton defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli in three sets to set up the quarterfinal showdown. The fourth seeded Shelton has been in great form this summer, reaching the semifinals at last week's DC Open.

During his match against Tiafoe, De Minaur displayed his trademark speed and athleticism. The ninth seeded Australian played some incredible defense, with the point of the match showcasing De Minaur's tenacity as he retrieved multiple impossible balls, forcing Tiafoe to eventually send his shot into the net.

Boulter and De Minaur engage in social media banter

A clip highlighting the pivotal point made it's rounds of social media. Boulter herself posted a short snippet, in which she teased her fiance with a playful caption.

"I’m not even fast I just read well," read the accompanying caption.

This prompted a quick response from De Minaur.

"It’s called anticipation," replied the 26-year old.

The couple began dating at the start of the pandemic, and have been together for close to five years. Boulter took to Instagram last year to announce their engagement, receiving several well-wishes from their colleagues and tennis fans around the world.

De Minaur has since lauded his wife-to-be over her endearing attitude and cheerful spirit. The Australian has often stressed how much he values her companionship and the peace she brings into his life.
