After announcing her DMs were open a few days ago, Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez has issued a warning to any potential dates regarding what she has labeled as "red flags".
The 2021 US Open runner-up in back home in Montreal for the Canadian Open. However, playing tennis may not be her only goal as she also hopes to go on her first date.
In a now-viral video on Instagram, Fernandez admitted she had never been on a date. The 22-year old asked potential suitors to message her on social media, although they would likely have to meet her father and coach, Jorge Fernandez.
After revealing she had received hundreds of messages, Fernandez released another video. This clip featured the former World No.13 talking about red flags she hopes her suitors do not possess.
"I think the No. 1 red flag for me is... There's a lot of slang in the message. For me, it's not very... I don't like to say proper but it's not easy to understand," said Fernandez in a clip shared by The Tennis Channel on Twitter.
The Montreal native entered the Canadian Open on a high, after winning the title at last week's DC Open. Fernandez defeated top seed Jessica Pegula and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina en route to the final. She would take on Anna Kalinskaya for the title, dispatching of the Russian in just over an hour to win her fourth WTA trohpy.
With the DC Open title in her pocket, Fernandez did not have much time as she made the tip to Montreal for the Canadian Open. The World No.24 appeared to have run out of steam, as she was defeated by Australian Maya Joint in straight sets in her opening round match. The duo last met in the first round of last week's DC Open, with Fernandez prevailing in straight sets.
