There are just two spots left to fill for the ATP Finals, and the chase is starting to wear some players down. One of them didn’t hold back when asked about how he’s feeling.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have already locked in their places, but there’s still a crowded field trying to catch up.

With time running out before the season wraps up, several big names have decided to enter tournaments like the Almaty Open, European Open, and Stockholm Open in a final push for points.

Speaking after his win at the European Open, one player summed it up simply: “Honestly speaking it was a nightmare.”

Exhaustion starting to hit home for Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti secured a quarter-final spot at the European Open with a win over Yannick Hanfmann, keeping his ATP Finals hopes alive.

He now faces Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the next round, looking to build on his form during this busy stretch of the indoor season.

After his latest victory, Musetti spoke about the mental and physical challenges he’s been facing towards the end of this season.

The Italian said: “It’s becoming not a dream, but a nightmare. I’m fighting every week. Since Wimbledon, I’m playing straight every week. I’m pretty tired; I think you can see from my face. I’m really, really tired.”

“Mentally, I’m there. That’s my goal for the season. We’ve managed to make lots of improvements, especially on this surface. One step at a time, and now focus on tomorrow, and then we will see.”

Musetti has reached career-best results at three of the four Grand Slams in 2025 so far. The semi-final run at Roland Garros was enough to break into the top 10 for the first time in his career.

Musetti admits he’s tired ahead of Mpetshi Perricard quarter-final

Lorenzo Musetti admitted after his win over Yannick Hanfmann that fatigue is starting to creep in, raising questions about how fresh he’ll be for his next match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

“I’m not at 100%,” Musetti said after the match. “But I’m still fighting for every point. This part of the season is always tough, but I’ve got to stay focused and take it one match at a time.”

He holds a 4-0 head-to-head record over the Frenchman, having won all four meetings between 2024 and 2025.

Two of those wins came this year, with Musetti claiming victories in both Stockholm (3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4)) and Estoril (7-5, 1-6, 7-5) on hard courts. He also beat Mpetshi Perricard in their only grass court encounter last year at Queen’s Club (3-6, 6-2, 7-5).

Although Mpetshi Perricard hasn’t beaten Musetti yet, this will be their first meeting on an indoor surface. Given the advantage an indoor setting can provide to strong servers like him, this could be his best chance yet to get his first win over the Italian.
