Marketa Vondrousova has once again withdrawn from her planned Rome Open return with the former Wimbledon champion seeming to be ready to return this week but she is now out of the tournament.

Vondrousova has withdrawn from the tournament on the eve of her tie with Xinyu Wang today. She is now replaced by Kamilla Rakhimova. She withdrew from the Paris Olympics due to a hand injury which also led her to pull out of the US Open.

Six months after her previous match, Vondrousova returned to the WTA Tour at the Adelaide International defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first round. Having won the opening set, she retired against Diana Shnaider in the second round.

Vondrousova then withdrew from the Australian Open. Her next tournament was the Abu Dhabi Open in February where she entered as a wildcard. She defeated Emma Raducanu then Yulia Putintseva. She had a good run but lost to Belinda Bencic.

But she then lost to Mirra Andreeva in Dubai. She has not played since late February. All set to return, she penned on Instagram: "Tried my best but not ready yet, see you next year Rome."

She joins a flux of players to withdraw from tournaments continually due to injury including Barbora Krejcikova, Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa etc.
