Maya Joint receives major boost ahead of French Open with Rabat title

Australia’s Maya Joint received a major boost ahead of the French Open. The second Grand Slam of the year begins on Sunday, where players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.

Australia’s young player, Joint, received a major boost ahead of the Roland Garros. The 19-year-old lifted her maiden WTA title in the singles category. She won the Morocco Open after beating Jaqueline Cristian in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Talking after the match, Joint was clearly ecstatic after lifting her first silverware. "It must be something about Morocco," Joint said afterwards, adding that, "I think conditions today really tested both of us; it was a lot different than the rest of the week."

The result will give a much-needed boost to Joint, who will be hoping for an improved show at the Roland Garros this year, after which she will be making her first-ever appearance in the main draw of the mega-event. She will face fellow countrywoman Ajla Tomljanovic in the round of 128 clash. The 32-year-old also featured in the recently concluded Morocco Open, where she decided to retire in the semifinal against Joint because of a fitness concern.

Tomljanovic is a far more experienced campaigner when it comes to playing at the French Open where she will be featuring for the 10th time in the main round. However, her record while playing at the competition has not been a great one as she only managed to secure a spot in the third round or beyond just once. This will be the second meeting between the two players in professional tennis.
