Play was temporarily halted on the Grandstand court at the Italian Open when Australia's Alex de Minaur's third-round match against Bolivia's Hugo Dellien was unexpectedly interrupted by a medical emergency in the stands.
With De Minaur in the lead at 4-3 and 30-all to serve in the first set, a fan standing in the seats needed immediate medical assistance, and officials and medical responders responded swiftly.
The cause for the incident wasn't announced, but medical attendants arrived fairly quickly and worked on the man for about 20 minutes while both players did not play until they stood court-side.

De Minaur leads 4-3, 30-30. https://t.co/WeOhWGQjtY
The pause was at a decisive phase of the match, when De Minaur seemed to have the momentum in terms of rhythm and control. But the suspension entirely spoiled that rhythm.
When play resumed, De Minaur walked back to the baseline to serve at 4-3, 30-all, however, the momentum seemed to have been broken.
Clearly flustered by the layoff and a touch out of rhythm, the Australian was broken in the match, losing his edge as Dellien took advantage of the break.

Incidents such as these remind us how frequently off-court affairs manage to catch up with top-level matches, particularly one as timing and momentum-sensitive as tennis.
Both men conducted themselves with dignity and professionalism in the crisis, maintaining pace with the gravity of the emergency but attempting to psychologically restart for the rest of the match.

The moment also reminds us of the human factor of any sporting event, wherein the safety of the fans is paramount.
Official word from the tournament officials has yet to come regarding the fan's status, but it is hoped that the fan was well cared for and is recovering well.
Reckon the only man that probably didn’t enjoy this was Alex de Minaur.

Just wanted to serve at 4-3, 30-all after already losing enough momentum (20-minute medical emergency delay) and did eventually get broken https://t.co/kWwCnypl4L
