British tennis is enjoying a strong spell heading into 2025, with Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie, and Emma Raducanu all inside the top 50 rankings.
It’s not just the established names making headlines either – there’s a new wave of British talent catching attention across the tennis circuit.
A lot of young Brits are starting their journeys through American college tennis, and many are finding real success along that path.
Norrie and Fearnley both took that route through Texas Christian University, and now another British player has committed to the same program.
18-year-old Oliver Bonding has put together a strong junior career so far and is now taking the next step forward.
On Instagram, Texas Christian University announced that Bonding will be joining their well-known tennis programme. In the post, they stated:
“Oliver Bonding, the former world junior No. 8 and 2025 Wimbledon boys doubles vice champion, is a TCU Horned Frog!”
Earlier this year, Bonding reached the final of Wimbledon’s junior doubles event alongside American Jagger Leach.
The young Brit also picked up a win at the M15 Lannion in February and later took on Bernard Tomic at the M25 Nottingham.
Norrie has spoken highly of his time at university, crediting it with preparing him for the demands of the ATP Tour.
Speaking to The Independent in 2017, Norrie revealed: “I was just burnt out from tennis a bit after the juniors and I felt like I wanted to do something else.
“College helped me learn to love the game again. I was lucky to have two great coaches – David Roditi and Devin Bowen – to guide me in the right direction. They got me on track.”
Norrie competed in college tennis from 2014 until 2017, standing out most during his final year. He finished the 2016/17 season unbeaten across singles and doubles, going 10–0.
He made his major debut that same year after leaving university and eventually reached a career-high ranking of world number eight.
