As she continues to rise during her breakout season, Mirra Andreeva has accomplished another milestone following her round of 16 victory at the 2025 Madrid Open.
The Russian tennis phenom defeated Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva to reach the quarterfinals in Madrid. Andreeva is set to square off against American Coco Gauff, who cruised past former Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic to reach the final eight.
Currently ranked at World No.7, Andreeva won two back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells earlier this season. However, the 17-year old continues to etch her name in the record books, as she became the youngest WTA player to reach multiple quarterfinals at the Madrid Open.
Andreeva reached the final eight in Madrid last year, falling to Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. Nonetheless, the Russian youngster is full of confidence heading into her showdown with Gauff, who is slowly rediscovering the form that saw her finish runner-up at Roland Garros a few years ago.
In addition to setting the record of being the youngest WTA player to reach multiple quarterfinals in Madrid, Andreeva also became the youngest WTA player to win 10 matches at a single WTA 1000 tournament, ever since the format's introduction in 2009.
