Naomi Osaka defeats Lucia Bronzetti in three sets to set up possible second-round match against Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros

I definitely do feel like it's a test to see where I'm at, but I wouldn't say I have low expectations of myself. I feel like I'm the underdog, and I think I thrive in those situations.  Naomi Osaka said after the match

Swiatek will be the big obstacle on the road for Osaka, whose one of the goals is to make it past the last 32 in the clay-court Grand Slam event for the first time. All her previous four Grand Slam victories came on hard courts.

Naomi Osaka once narrated how scared she was to face Iga Swiatek at Roland 

Back in 2022, before the main draw for Roland Garros was announced, Naomi Osaka had a nightmare. She narrated it during a press conference that year, revealing how scared she was in her dream after knowing she drew Iga Swiatek for the first round. 

I had a dream a couple of days ago that the draw came out, and I had to play Iga. Like for me, I was scared because I was thinking, like, what’s the worst possible player to play when I’m unseeded. She came to my mind, so thank God that didn’t happen. Naomi Osaka said

It must be noted that to reach the second round, Swiatek will have to beat France’s Leolia Jeanjean on Monday first. This will be their first meeting in their career.

On the other hand, Swiatek locked horns with Osaka two times, with both winning one match each. In their first encounter in the 2019 Toronto Open, Osaka secured the victory in straight sets. They last met in the 2022 Miami Open which Swiatek won with scores of 6-4, 6-0.

Swiatek has arrived in Paris after successful campaigns in Madrid and Rome, winning both the finals by beating Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka.
