New names for the 2025 Laver Cup have been confirmed, bringing the total of confirmed stars to participate to seven. The new additions are Holger Rune for Team Europe and João Fonseca, who becomes the first non-American player confirmed for Team World this year.
The tournament will hold its 8th edition on indoor hard courts as usual, this time at the Chase Center in the USA from September 19th to 21st, two weeks after the US Open and just before the start of the Asian Swing.
This year, the tournament will have the novelty of each team having a new captain, after seven consecutive years in which Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe led their respective teams.
This time, Frenchman Yannick Noah is the captain of Team Europe, and Tim Henman is the vice-captain. On the other hand, Team World will be led by former World No. 1 Andre Agassi, who chose Australian Patrick Rafter as vice-captain.
The first players to be confirmed were Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz – both at the end of 2024 – for Europe and the Rest of the World respectively, with both being tipped as the leaders of their respective teams.
Throughout 2025, more names have been added, and the lineup already has more than half of its stars confirmed. Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton were announced in February of this year, and then in early April, American Tommy Paul joined Team World.
The new announcement, however, confirms the presence of two players who have never played in the exhibition tournament led by Roger Federer. For the Europeans, world No. 14 Holger Rune, former Paris Masters champion who withdrew in 2023 due to a back injury, has joined.
On the other hand, the surprise is João Fonseca, who is currently the lowest-ranked player confirmed (No. 64). However, the 18-year-old Brazilian has shown that he can display a much higher level than his ranking suggests and will be a great opportunity to gain experience among the best players in the world.
Each team is made up of six players, so Europe still needs to announce its final three members, while Team World has two remaining spots to add stars.
Holger Rune is heading to San Francisco as the latest addition under Captain Yannick Noah.
