New world record for prize money won could be set at 2022 ATP Finals
Peter van den Berg-USA TODAY Sports

Every year, the eight best ATP players meet at the year-end event and in 2022 it can be special because of record-high prize money.

Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Novak Djokovic all qualified for the 2022 ATP Finals and they will therefore receive $320,000 in participation fee. Moreover, they will fight for 200 points and $383,300 for every victory in round-robin stage.

If a player advances without losing a match and wins in semifinals as well as the final, he can earn $4,740,300 and 1500 points, but that will be the case only if a player wins every match in round-robin stage.

In 2019, Ashleigh Barty won WTA Finals and after losing only one match in round-robin stage, the Australian collected a total of $4,420,000. Until today, that is a record amount of prize money won by a player at a tennis tournament, male of female.

An undefeated champion at the 2022 ATP Finals could break this record by more than $300,000 and set a new world record in prize money won by a tennis player at a single event.

However, that will be the case only if the player wins all five matches. If the eventual champion loses one of his round-robin matches, he will earn "only" $4,357,000. That means $67,000 less than Ashleigh Barty in 2019.
