Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has broken into the ATP's top 5 for most wins this season, reaching 30 match victories – a feat he only achieved once before, in 2023. The Spanish tennis player secured a 6-2, 6-2 win on Thursday against American Learner Tien, marking another victory on hardcourts.
Currently ranked world No. 26, the Spaniard is close to reaching his career-high of No. 21. Davidovich Fokina has consistently shown strong form on the ATP Tour over the years, often making deep runs in tournaments, though he is still seeking his first professional title.
Despite this, Davidovich has managed an impressive 10 top-10 victories across clay, grass, and hardcourts, defeating rivals like Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Taylor Fritz. Coincidentally, the American will be his next opponent in the DC Open quarterfinals, vying for a semifinal spot – which would see him climb to world No. 22.
Davidovich's 30th win of the season on Thursday against Tien places him on a list dominated by Carlos Alcaraz – by a significant margin – and puts him ahead of players like Djokovic, Jack Draper, Jannik Sinner, and Holger Rune.
The player from Malaga demonstrated his class against Tien, reaching his sixth quarterfinal of the season. He previously achieved this at Delray Beach, Acapulco, Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and Eastbourne, showcasing his ability to adapt well to all types of surfaces and conditions.
Davidovich faced an injury in 2024 that kept him from the forefront of the tennis world, but he has managed to regain consistency in his game over the past year, becoming a tough opponent for anyone on Tour.
Currently, the season's win count is led by Carlos Alcaraz with 48 victories, far ahead of his closest pursuer, Alexander Zverev, who has 35 wins. In third place are Taylor Fritz – Davidovich Fokina's next opponent – and Australian Alex De Minaur, both tied with 32 victories.
Davidovich Fokina will face top-seeded American Taylor Fritz in an intriguing DC Open quarterfinal, featuring two players from the season's top 5 in terms of victories. The Head2Head between them stands at 3-3 after multiple encounters in 2025. The Spaniard won on hard courts in Delray Beach, while the American triumphed at Eastbourne and Wimbledon during the recent grass-court swing.
This isn't the first time Davidovich Fokina has hit the 30-win mark, but it is the earliest he has done so in a season. His only other season reaching 30 victories was in 2023, but that occurred in September, during the Davis Cup Finals. On that occasion, he finished the year with 32 wins, his best record to date – a mark he is now just two wins away from equaling and three from surpassing.
In his career, Davidovich Fokina has played 280 matches at the ATP level and has reached three finals, though he has yet to lift a professional title. He is the only player in the top 40 who has never won a professional title, and at 26 years old, it seems only a matter of time before the Spaniard breaks this streak.
Carlos Alcaraz 48-6
Alexander Zverev 35-14
Taylor Fritz 32-12
Alex De Minaur 32-13
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 30-17
