Novak Djokovic says he is calm over the lack of points at Wimbledon this year because he ‘no longer chases the rankings.’

Djokovic is the most dominant ATP world number one in history with him spending more time at the top of the rankings than any other man in history.

After breaking that record last year, he openly admitted that his priorities would immediately change to spending more time with his family, despite knowing his ranking would suffer.

This season he has dropped the world number three, although much of that is because of not being allowed to play the Australian Open, and he will fall further as a result of Wimbledon being stripped of its points.

Asked if how the lack of ranking points might affect his approach to the tournament, Djokovic said: “It would probably affect players other than myself to be honest.

“I don’t want to say the ranking points are not important for me – of course they are – but not as they were until recently.”

“Now, I am not chasing the rankings as much as I had until I broke the record for longest weeks at number one and then after that it wasn’t that important in terms of priority for me.”

Novak Djokovic has won each of the last three editions at Wimbledon.

It is a tournament that he openly admits was his ‘dream’ as a youngster back in Serbia and he hopes to continue his stranglehold over the men’s singles this year.

“[I have] some wonderful memories for me for the last three editions of Wimbledon and hopefully I can continue that run.

“I didn’t have any lead-up tournaments to Wimbledon but I have had success at Wimbledon in the past without having any official matches and tournaments. I just had one exhibition match a few days ago in Hurlingham.

“But over the years, as I said, I have had success with adapting quickly to the surface so there is no reason not to believe that I cannot do it again.

“I am of course very pleased and happy to be back at the tournament that was always my childhood dream tournament and the one that I always wanted to win.”
