There is a sense of inevitability that has stepped into men’s tennis in the last two years. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have stolen the imagination of every player with their exquisite stroke play and consistency on the tour. The two players have equally shared the last eight Grand Slams in men’s tennis. It is a historic feat that has never happened before.

Incredibly enough, the last five tournaments in which the pair have taken part, have seen these two players in the final of each of them. Rome Open, French Open, Wimbledon, Cincinnati Masters and US Open. The one question that pops up in everyone’s mind is, who will be the next player to win a Grand Slam in the supposed Sincaraz Era (A blend term for their dominance).

Mouratoglou shares the secret to beat “Sincaraz”

Patrick Mouratoglou in an exclusive interview The Guardian gave his analysis on who he feels would be the next player to be a big champion amongst the two stars of the sport right now. “It’s funny that you’re saying that. When Rafa and Roger were at the top of the game, it was exactly the same situation. But then a young Novak Djokovic came in and said, ‘I’m going to beat those guys and be No 1.’ And everyone laughed and said, ‘Who’s this cocky guy?’ But he ended up doing it and becoming the greatest of all time.”

Mouratoglou answered giving the prime example of the Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic famous trilogy. Federer and Nadal had dominated tennis heavily in the years 2005-2007. It was finally Djokovic who broke the streak in 2008 by winning the Australian Open and announcing himself. From then on he became a regular and eventually surpassed both Federer and Nadal in terms of numbers in tennis winning all the major tournaments on multiple occasions.

Mouratoglou added, “So, yes, for the moment Alcaraz and Sinner are on a different planet for sure. But your question makes a lot of sense because the guy who’s going to be in the mix with these two, if there is one, is the only guy who’s going to believe it’s possible.” Mouratoglou further stressed on the importance of belief in sport.

Many have stated that Sinner and Alcaraz are dominating world tennis right now because of sheer belief in themselves which is lacking in many other players on the tour. If there is a Djokovic 2.0 hidden somewhere, it will only do good for men’s tennis as the competition will further intensify going forward.
