Paula Badosa shares cryptic message weeks after breakup with Stefanos Tsitsipas
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas started dating in May last year and were the talk of the town when their joint Instagram account, ‘Tsitsidosa’, went public. The two tennis stars went strong for almost a year, irrespective of all the criticisms that went their way, blaming the relationship for their poor 2023 and early 2024 seasons.

However, the couple split last month and no public statements were given by either, until Paula Badosa mentioned in an interview that Stefanos Tsitsipas and herself likened Grigor Dimitrov and Maria Sharapova, referring to a time when those two were together. She said Tsitsipas was likely the right person for her, but she found him at the wrong time as they both presently have their respective careers to worry about.

Since then, the two have been relatively silent about the break-up, going about their tournament runs as usual. Badosa posted a somewhat cryptic tweet today, which may indicate that she is handling the split well.

It seems to be a message to the fans saying that she is enjoying her time on tour and is not bothered by the separation from Tsitsipas.

Paula Badosa’s ranking continues to slip as she fails to defend points in Rome

Paula Badosa was ranked as high as two in the world, just two years ago when Ashleigh Barty’s retirement gave her a little bump, as it did to Iga Swiatek who became number one for the first time. However, Badosa failed to maintain her spot in the top 3 following a series of injuries and bad results

2023 was less than ideal for the Spaniard, with no titles and several withdrawals following an injury in the second round of Wimbledon, which eventually forced her to end the season early. This caused a drastic fall in her rankings as she exited the top 100, reaching a position she hadn’t been in for quite a few years.

She had a handful of decent tournaments last year and Rome was one of them. The 26-year-old lost in the quarterfinal against Ostapenko. This year, she could not make it past the fourth round, which means she will lose points and drop from her current rank of 126 to 141.
