Queen of Clay reigns: Iga Swiatek dominates Emma Raducanu in Roland Garros masterclass
Sipa Press

Iga Swiatek secured another victory at Roland Garros, comfortably defeating Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-2, and guaranteeing her spot in the third round. It was a challenging match-up between two Grand Slam champions, but it was the "Queen of Clay" who took control from the outset.

The Pole asserted her favoritism, ultimately securing her 23rd consecutive win at Roland Garros. This marks Swiatek's fifth victory against Raducanu, who has never managed to take a single set from the Pole. The world No. 5's next challenge will be against the winner between Sara Bejlek and Jaqueline Cristian.

First Set

The start wasn't easy for Swiatek, who saw Raducanu earn a break opportunity early on, but the Pole gracefully held her first service game. Raducanu leveled at 1-1 without issue and seemed ready to challenge her opponent. However, the Brit quickly lost precision and couldn't inflict damage with either her serve or return.

Swiatek – as in all her recent years at the French Open – took control of the match and never relinquished it. She secured the first break in the fourth game and, with the advantage on her side, gave her opponent few chances on serve. The Pole hit 11 winners compared to Raducanu's mere 4, while they were even in unforced errors (12 each). The former world No. 1 won five consecutive games and comfortably closed the set 6-1 in 36 minutes.

Second Set

The second set began with Raducanu serving strongly, but again, it was only an encouraging start that didn't hold throughout the set. Swiatek secured the break in the third game and then, on her serve, faced several challenges (saving break opportunities against her) before extending her lead to 3-1. Raducanu showed resistance, but not much effectiveness against the "Queen of Clay."

While the Brit managed to reduce her unforced errors to 5, Swiatek nearly doubled her winners, reaching 21. It was an especially aggressive set from the Pole, who gave her opponent little rhythm, and long rallies became increasingly rare. After reaching 3-2, Swiatek won 12 of the next 14 points consecutively and easily sealed the 6-1, 6-2 victory in just one hour and 19 minutes, sending another clear signal that she has the level to contend for the title.
