Rafael Nadal's acclaimed Netflix documentary Rafa has received a nomination for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, earning recognition in the Outstanding Documentary Series category. The four-part series follows the Spaniard's final season on the ATP Tour and offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to one of the greatest careers in tennis history.
Released on May 29, Rafa chronicles Nadal's farewell campaign before his retirement in October 2024, combining footage from his final months as a professional with never-before-seen moments from his personal archives. The documentary also features exclusive access to his family, coaching team and inner circle, alongside appearances from fellow tennis legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The nomination marks another milestone for the production, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Zach Heinzerling and produced by Netflix and Skydance Sports. It is the first Emmy nomination for the series, which has been widely praised for its intimate look at Nadal's final chapter both on and off the court.
Following the announcement, the 22-time Grand Slam champion shared an emotional message on social media, thanking everyone involved in the project and describing the documentary as one of the most personal stories ever told about his life and career.
Nadal admitted he was both honoured and grateful after learning that Rafa had been shortlisted for one of television's most prestigious awards. The former world No. 1 stressed that the recognition belonged not only to him but also to the many people who helped bring the documentary to life.
"Honored and grateful for this Emmy nomination. This documentary recounts a very personal part of my journey, and none of this would have been possible without all the people who participated."
The Spaniard also thanked the organisations and production teams behind the series, including Netflix, Skydance and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, recognising the collaborative effort that made the project possible.
"Thank you to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Netflix, Skydance and all the incredible teams who made this possible. This nomination belongs to all of you."
