Serena Williams’ ex-coach Stubbs, in a post on her official account on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — made a prediction that this year’s French Open will be ‘really interesting’. She did that while praising both Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and America’s Coco Gauff for their performance in the recently concluded WTA 1000 event in Rome.
“Jasmine Paolini, @JasminePaolini huge congratulations on winning another WTA 1000 and doing this one in your home country! Wowza! What a week and what a smile. No one more deserving. Another incredible week for @CocoGauff as well. French open is going to be REALLY interesting this year!!!,” she wrote.
The Rome Open recently concluded where Italy’s Paolini lifted the title after beating Gauff in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. While talking to the Tennis Channel after the match, the Italian tennis star stated that she had no idea how she could produce such a flawless performance on the day.
“I don’t know [how I played so well,” she said. “I was trying to focus on the match. Trying to repeat myself that no matter what happens, you have to stay there for every ball. At the beginning I was feeling that I had to play great. So yea, it was great, great final and really happy about. In front of the home crowd, in front of my family and the president, so its amazing. I was trying [to be more aggressive] because I knew that with Coco, I have to raise the level a little bit.”
