Sam Querrey believes an American ATP player could have a similar game to Roger Federer.

Federer is one of the biggest stars in tennis history, having won 20 Grand Slam singles titles in his career.

Not only did he achieve great success in terms of titles, but Federer was also very popular due to his elegant game style.

Federer has been retired from tennis since 2022, but former Wimbledon semifinalist Querrey believes there is now an American player who has a similar game to the Swiss.

Sam Querrey praises American player and compares him to Roger Federer

Querrey was discussing the latest week of tennis on the Nothing Major Podcast, which he speaks on alongside fellow former players John Isner, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson.

After discussing Daniil Medvedev winning the Brisbane International, Querrey wanted to give an honorable mention to American player Aleksandar Kovacevic, who reached the semifinals.

In his assessment of Kovacevic’s week in Brisbane, Querrey compared his game to Federer and called it the ‘most aesthetically pleasing’ on the ATP Tour right now.

“Can we give an honorable shout out to Aleksandar Kovacevic, maybe the most aesthetically pleasing looking game on tour,” said Querrey. “It’s not far off of Fed when you are just watching him hit the ball on just looks wise, how the backhand looks, the forehand, the serve, it’s like poetry.”

Isner added, “It’s beautiful.”

In response to Querrey’s claim, the aforementioned Sock then asked him if he preferred Kovacevic’s game to world number five Lorenzo Musetti.

Sock: Do you like watching him or Musetti’s?

Johnson: Dude, I could watch these guys hit cross court backhands all day.

Querrey: I think him and Musetti are like the top guys for most beautiful games right now in the top 100.

Aleksandar Kovacevic’s Career Highlights

Not only is Kovacevic’s game aesthetically pleasing to the Nothing Major Podcast, but he is also enjoying the best year of his career.

After reaching the semifinals of the Brisbane International, Kovacevic has climbed four places to his career-high ranking of world number 54, having been outside the top 100 this time last year.

Kovacevic is yet to win an ATP title, but he did reach two finals last year in Montpellier and Los Cabos.

While he has produced some impressive results at certain tournaments, Kovacevic has struggled at both Grand Slams and Masters 1000 tournaments.

In his entire career so far, Kovacevic has only won two of his 26 combined matches at Grand Slams and Masters 1000 tournaments.

Kovacevic will hope to improve this record when he makes his second main draw appearance at the Australian Open, which gets underway on Sunday, January 18.
