German tennis star Alexander Zverev has experienced several ups and downs during the 2025 ATP season, leading to him admitting his struggles. The former World No.2 has decided to try a different approach, and his recent moves have earned him the support of compatriot and former player, Tommy Haas.

Zverev suffered a shocking first round loss at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, losing to unranked Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in five sets. The Hamburg native would later admit to being frustrated with his string of losses, and revealed he was considering getting mental counseling to help deal with his emotions.

Prior to Wimbledon, Zverev had seen his form dip as he suffered early losses in several tournaments. Although he won the trophy in front of his home crowd at the BMW Open, the 28-year old's talent and experience on court should see him winning or at least reaching the final rounds of every tournament in which he participates.

Regarding Grand Slams, Zverev was once touted as a future Major champion. However, the German has failed to live up to expectations, reaching three Grand Slam finals but failing to take home the trophy. Considered the favorite against a 38-year old Novak Djokovic at the 2025 French Open, Zverev disappointed as he was defeated by the Serbian in four sets.

Haas approves of Zverev's recent changes

Following his recent loss at Wimbledon, Zverev opted to change his approach to the game. The World No.3 was spotted training with Toni Nadal, uncle and former coach of Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, ahead of the North American hard court swing.

"If we look at his numbers and his statistics, we can say that Sascha is having an excellent career," said Haas in an interview with Eurosport. "He is only missing a Grand Slam title, a goal he has been chasing for a long time.
"The loss in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships was an isolated case in my opinion, but it also represented a stimulus to reflect and change something in the future. It seems to me that Sascha is finally willing to look at other solutions to try to win a Major title."

With the US Open only a few weeks away, it appears Zverev is making one final push as he aims to capture his first Grand Slam title.
