Serena Williams’ ex-coach suggests how she’d get on if she played doubles with Venus now

Serena Williams and Venus Williams told they can still beat anybody

While Venus continued her shock return at the Australian Open, Serena has remained well away from the WTA Tour.

But her former coach Rick Macci has now teased a possible return to action, and indeed what that could look like.

He wrote on X: “I feel Serena will make a few cameos and play doubles with Vee. She is locked, loaded and ready to launch.

“When they play they still can beat anybody anytime anywhere. 14/0 Grand Slam finals. Bang!”

Venus Williams endures difficult Australian Open

While Serena was nowhere near the court in Melbourne, Venus continued her remarkable career at the age of 45.

She received a wildcard for this year’s Australian Open, where she played both women’s singles and doubles.

Williams lost 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 4-6 to Olga Danilovic in her singles opener, before suffering a first round doubles exit with Ekaterina Alexandrova.

But playing with her sister could be a different story entirely, as no pairs were able to beat the duo throughout their stunning Grand Slam doubles run.

Their 14 titles comprise six at Wimbledon, four at the Australian Open, and two each at the French Open and US Open.

For good measure, Serena even clinched mixed doubles success at the very highest level, winning two of her four Grand Slam finals.
