America’s Ben Shelton’s has seen his wish been granted before his Wimbledon fourth-round clash. The 22-year-old cemented his spot in the round of 16 of the third Grand Slam of the year after beating Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-2.
After securing that win, Shelton, while talking on the court, expressed his wish for his sister to stay for a little longer, as, according to him, she was his ‘lucky charm’. “I have been playing well this week,” he said on Saturday. “Its not just being me here. I have a great team. My parents are here, my girlfriend is here. Also, my sister is here. She has been here in every match I played in this tournament so far. She has been a lucky charm but she has work back in the US, starting on Monday. She works for Morgan Stanley. So if anyone of you have some connections, get her a couple of extra days off to keep this rolling which would be great.”
It appears that Shelton’s wish has been fulfilled, as his sister was granted an additional one-week holiday from Morgan Stanley. Shelton confirmed the development in a video posted to his official Instagram account. “Do you get the week off or what,” asked Shelton in the video. In response, his sister started jumping for joy.
This is the second consecutive year that Shelton has managed to secure a spot in the fourth round at Wimbledon. Last year, he was knocked out at this stage after losing to world number one Jannik Sinner in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4, 7-6. Shelton will now face another Italian player, Lorenzo Sonego, in the round of 16. Sonego secured his spot in the fourth round after beating America’s Brandon Nakashima in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.
