'She is a bad woman, man!' Andy Roddick vouches for Iga Swiatek to win the Sunshine Double
Brandon Magpantay/ Special to The Desert Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK

Iga Swiatek has been a force to reckon with over the past two weeks. At the Indian Wells Masters, she remained unbeaten throughout the whole tournament without dropping a set. Seeing this form of the Pole, the former tennis player Andy Roddick believes that the WTA World No. 1 has a good chance to win the Sunshine Double.

In a recent live stream on Tennis Channel, Roddick had to back up either Iga Swiatek or Carlos Alcaraz to win the Sunshine Double. Both these players were dominant at Indian Wells, securing one title of the Sunshine Double. However, Roddick believes that Swiatek has a higher probability of winning the Double than the Spaniard.

She (Swiatek) is approaching a rare era like Kenin, Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport, Kim Klister. She is like right there, and she is also only 22 years old. She’s a bad woman, man. She can play. Roddick via the Tennis Channel.

He compared a 22-year-old Swiatek to the whole other era of the game. She is currently one of the most consistent players on tour. Despite having a few bad tournaments in 2024, the Pole has turned the game around, coming back to her usual best form.

Even Monica Puig, the other known face of the Tennis Channel, agreed with Roddick, hailing Swiatek as a force to be reckoned with because of how well she is moving on the court. Executing every shot to perfection, the Pole has won the Indian Wells and aims to win the second half of the Sunshine Double, repeating her 2022 feat.

Andy Roddick reckons that Iga Swiatek’s career is undersold despite the number of titles

Swiatek had made her mark in tennis right from her teenage years, skyrocketing to the top ranks. Soon, she had four Majors to her name and has been the top contender in every tournament she has been a part of. Andy Roddick also agreed with the same and even stated that her career is rather undersold to the world.

In a recent live on the Tennis Channel, Roddick picked Swiatek to win the Sunshine Double after her sweet run at the Indian Wells. The Pole has already done it once before in 2022 and has a very good chance to repeat that.

She has been more bankable over the course of her career, and as good as we know she is, her career at this point is almost undersold. Roddick added

In addition to four Grand Slam majors, Swiatek has also bagged eight Masters titles to her name. This year also she has two titles to her name, including a Masters, and will only be more dangerous as the tour enters the clay courts. With the Miami Open first-round matches starting on March 20, soon Swiatek would be back on the court, trying to win her second Sunshine Double.
