Shocking! Emma Raducanu set to play Roland Garros qualifiers after failing to receive a wild card entry
Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports

With the French Open just a couple of weeks away, wildcards have been granted to various players, allowing them direct entry into the main draw without having to qualify. However, one expected player was surprisingly left out.

British pro-Emma Raducanu failed to get a wild card entry into Roland Garros and is currently the fourth alternative. Although she just returned from an injury, the Briton could not get many wins under her belt to impact her wildcard entry chances.

The former US Open champion now has to go through the qualification rounds to make it to the main draw, or she has to hope that there are four withdrawals.

With the French Open approaching, many Italian stars received wildcards for direct entry into the main draw at Roland Garros. Unfortunately, Raducanu will need a miracle to secure a direct entry. Her rivals, like Ajla Tomljanovic and Sachia Vickery, have fared better. Currently ranked World No. 212, Raducanu hopes to climb higher.

Emma Raducanu pulls out of the Strasbourg Open, throwing shade on her French Open participation

Raducanu recently pulled all attention towards her, as she opted out of a WTA 500 tournament before the French Open. The Internationaux de Strasbourg takes place in the same week as the French Open qualifiers, and players usually participate to build momentum ahead of the big event.

Raducanu’s participation at that event was confirmed, but according to recent reports, she has withdrawn from the tournament. However, it seems like her withdrawal was on purpose, given that the Brit might have to play for a spot in the main draw.

Upon landing fifth in the main draw, Raducanu has to wait for four others to withdraw to get her wildcard entry into the main draw. Until then, she has to play the qualifications, meaning that she cannot play in the Strasbourg Open.

The Brit last played in the Madrid Open first round, where she lost in straight sets. After that, she will be seen at the French Open qualifiers now, her first time in the qualifications of a Grand Slam since the 2021 US Open.
