Coco Gauff has already experienced a chaotic start to her 2026 season, which she has started at the United Cup.

The USA are chasing their third United Cup title in four years, and Gauff has just helped them reach this year’s quarterfinals.

The defending champions beat Argentina 2-1 in their opening match, which was followed by a 3-0 win over Spain.

Gauff emerged victorious in her first singles match, but lost her second, while she’s also been a part of two doubles victories.

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro praises Coco Gauff after shock United Cup win

The American has been the subject of praise from her latest opponent Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who won their clash 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-0.

The Spaniard said: “I know Coco and she’s a fighter. She’s there all the time in the match, so I knew that I had to be there, and even if I’m 4-1 up, I have to be there.

“And yeah, she won the second set and I went to the bathroom and I was trying to focus just to take it point by point.

“And that was my mentality in the third set. To be [there] with power every point because even if you are [up] 3-0 or 4-0, you have to be ready.”

Who is WTA ace Jessica Bouzas Maneiro?

While Gauff has come under the spotlight since the shock loss, in which she hit 54 unforced errors, Bouzas Maneiro deserves huge praise.

She was always going to be the underdog against the American superstar, who was named the MVP when the USA lifted the trophy in 2025.

Gauff has just fallen one spot to fourth in the WTA rankings, while Spanish ace Bouzas Maneiro is currently in 42nd place.

The 23-year-old is yet to win a WTA title, but can take great confidence from her superb victory over Gauff, even if Spain were eliminated from the tournament shortly after.
