Tennessee Vols will see one of their former players in their regional trying to end their season

The Vols' road to Omaha is set, and it begins in Knoxville and could end up stretching out to Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Tennessee is the 1 seed in the Knoxville regional and is joined by (2) Wake Forest, (3) Cincinnati (3), and Miami (OH) (4).  The Vols will open up against Miami (OH) in their first game.  The regional winner will also face off against the Fayetteville, Arkansas regional in the Super Regionals, which could set the stage for a very spicy final roadblock in the Vols' quest to return to Omaha.

However, one former Tennessee Vol hopes to spoil that intriguing potential matchup.  Former Vols and current Wake Forest hurler Matthew Dallas will be coming back to Lindsey Nelson Stadium, where he was a part of Tennessee's 2024 national championship roster.

Dallas pitched out of the bullpen in 2024 for Tennessee as a freshman in a limited role.  He appeared in 15 games for UT, throwing 17.0 innings and allowing 9 earned runs with 11 hits and 10 walks to go with 22 strikeouts.

He came to Tennessee in the class of 2023 as one of the top 100 players in the class according to Perfect Game (#97), but he announced his decision to transfer on June 20, just days before the Vols won their first ever national championship.  He did not make the team's postseason roster.

With the Deamon Deacons, Dallas has had more of an expanded role as a mid-week/additional starter, appearing in 13 games with 53 IP and allowing 30 ER with 59 strikeouts to 28 walks.

We'll see if the Vols will get a look at their former reliever if both teams take care of business and advance over the weekend.
