Tennis Hall of Famer Doesn’t Think Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz Will Reach Big 3’s Grand Slam Tally

Tennis Hall of Famer journalist Steve Flink has made it clear that clinching 20 Grand Slam titles or more is not a walk in the park, that it takes years of continuous dedication and hard work to achieve what the legendary trio – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have done. And this is why Flink doesn’t think the young champions, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, would be able to reach the 20-Major titles rally.

Alcaraz has already surpassed his idol, Nadal, by becoming the second youngest man in the Open Era to clinch six Grand Slam titles when he defeated Sinner in four sets to win his second US Open title earlier this week.

Sinner, at 24, has already become the youngest man to make the finals of every Major tournament in a single season, with his Grand Slam titles count being four, two of which he lifted this year. He defended his Australian Open crown by beating Alexander Zverev and later denied Alcaraz a three-peat at Wimbledon.

Yeah, no, my guess at this point is that they…I’m thinking that they end up around 18, 16 and 17 and 15. I don’t think they’re going to hit the 20.

Federer and Nadal retired with 20 and 22 Majors, respectively, while Djokovic is still fighting for his historic 25th Major. Before Alcaraz and Sinner asserted their dominance by winning the last eight Grand Slam titles, the last player other than them to win a Major was Djokovic (at the 2023 US Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev). This year, the 38-year-old reached every Grand Slam semifinal and has planned to play next year as well to continue his hunt for his 25th Major.

For the time being, it’s definitely a big two. But if I had to predict now, I’d say they fall just a little shy, but they’re definitely well up in the teens, both of them. So, that gets to your point about Pete and Andre [Agassi]. Now, they’ll go past Pete [Sampras], both of them, I think. But, I don’t know if they’ll get to Roger at 20.

Alcaraz and Sinner have become the first pair in men’s singles to share the last six Majors. They will next play at the China Open, where Alcaraz defeated the 24-year-old in the final last year.

Jannik Sinner to play the Vienna Open

Jannik Sinner will play seven tournaments for the rest of the season, which also includes the Six Kings Slam, which he won last year by beating Carlos Alcaraz and took home $6 million. In his already busy schedule, Sinner has added one more tournament.
