Former world number one Andy Murray has decided to start something new after parting ways with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. The 38-year-old, who is regarded as the greatest British player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category after winning three Grand Slam titles, retired from the sport in 2024 after representing his country at the Paris Olympics.
Soon after, Murray joined his former rival, Djokovic, as his coach for the 2025 season. That partnership, however, did not last very long as they both decided to part ways just six months later. "Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over last six months on and off the court. Really enjoyed deepening our friendship together," said Djokovic. "Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season,” was the response of Murray.
According to English media outlet Sunday Times, Murray has decided to start something new after ending his partnership with the Serbian legendary tennis star. The three-time Grand Slam winner has reportedly decided to become an associate partner at an investment firm. Murray was quoted in the report, where he explained the logic behind his decision.
"It’s difficult to step away from a sport like tennis, which has been so all-consuming for me for so long, and then not have anything to fill that void,” he said. "I’ve seen it before with other athletes — when they haven’t had other interests straight after sport, it becomes hard for them to know who they are. I’m also only 38 years old, so that’s a long time to be retired. My plan was always to spend more time on my other business interests once I’d finished playing tennis, and I’m enjoying starting to work on some of those projects now."
