The 2025 WTA season has seen several young and promising stars leapfrog their older colleagues in the race from supremacy on tour, as players aged 19 and under are yet to lose in a tour-level final this year.

Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva kicked off proceedings at the start of the year. Already dubbed as a potential World No.1, the 18-year old surpassed expectations when she won the Dubai title at just 17 years of age. Andreeva defeated Grand Slam champions Marketa Vondrousova and Iga Swiatek en route to the then-biggest title of her career.

Andreeva would stub fans by going on an incredible winning streak, as she would again defeat Swiatek at the subsequent Indian Wells tournament. The Russian battled past World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final to win her second consecutive title, and her first at the WTA 1000 level.

Following Andreeva's success, Australian Maya Joint would take the lead as the she would prevail in Rabat to win her maiden WTA title. Joint would keep it rolling with another title win at the grass court event in Eastbourne, showing her prowess was not just limited to one surface.

Mboko captures the heart of a nation

The Canada Open would feature one of the most heartwarming stories of the year, as local hero Victoria Mboko would claim the WTA 1000 title in front of home fans. The 18-year old defeated four former Grand Slam champions en route to her first WTA final, overcoming a resurgent Naomi Osaka in a thrilling display of heart and poise.

After the US Open, the young crop of stars would continue to make history. Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah seized the moment in Sao Paolo, becoming the first French teenage to win a WTA-level event in almost 10 years. The 19-year old's victory saw her win her first WTA title, and first hard-court title as a professional at any level.

American Iva Jovic has been labeled as a potential star, and the 17-year old showed some of her talent when she won the title at the Guadalajara Open. Jovic displayed expertise beyond her years, as she battled her way to the final, where she defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango 6-4 6-1 to claim her first WTA title on her first attempt.
