'The pressure is different,' Iga Swiatek opens up on charging her batteries ahead of Roland Garros

WTA No.1 Iga Swiatek has been in the form of her life. After a successful hard court season, the Pole brought her A-game to the clay courts as well. She won the Madrid Open last fortnight by beating Aryna Sabalenka to the punch.

Without much break, she headed to Rome for the second Masters 1000 tournament. No surprise as Swiatek continued her raging form and cruised past the many rounds without dropping a set. She was once again face-to-face with Aryna Sabalenka, who was determined to take her revenge.

Swiatek shifted into high gear and defeated the WTA No. 2 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. It’s been a great few weeks for Swiatek, who is now well-prepared for Roland Garros. In a recent Tennis Channel interview, she shared her mindset heading into the clay Slam.

I’m going to repeat myself. I’m going to be boring. You have to do everything step-by-step. There are 7 matches there so it's not easy to in a Grand Slam. The pressure is different and the intensity of the tournament overall of the court as well.  Iga Swiatek said

Nonetheless, Swiatek is excited to take a week off after playing consecutive tournaments.

Iga Swiatek speaks about her mentality playing in a tournament final

Polish pro-Iga Swiatek has been on a purple patch of form this year. She won both the Madrid and the Rome titles to become the first woman since 2013 to do so. Moreover, Swiatek has won her last nine out of ten finals, which speaks highly of her conversion rate to grab trophies.

Her win in Rome was her third title there and her 10th Masters title overall. Swiatek holds a good record in the finals and recently spoke about her mentality when in finals. She revealed that she goes in the finals with the same mentality as she does with the previous matches. Just because the finals hold a distinct pressure, Swiatek highlighted that she makes sure to treat it like a normal game.

Honestly, I try to stay in the same level. Sometimes the finals are not so nice as the quarter-finals or the semi-finals because there is stress, there is tension so I try to treat this matches as you know any other match and obviously, there is a lot at stake so sometimes its not possible to do that. Iga Swiatek said

Furthermore, she revealed that she used her form in the previous matches to feel more prepared for the finals. However, now the Pole is gearing up for the French Open and will use the one-week break to try to recharge her batteries and head with a better mindset.
