It was announced today that Casper Ruud will return to Team Europe for the upcoming Laver Cup, joining the squad led by Yannick Noah starting this year. The Norwegian will participate for the fifth consecutive time in the tournament that pits Europe against the Rest of the World.

Team Europe had already confirmed 5-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, and Danish world No. 9 Holger Rune. Two other players for the European team are still to be confirmed for the event, which this year will take place at the Chase Center in San Francisco from September 19-21.

The traditional tournament, initially promoted by Roger Federer, continues to build its roster in a year of change. With no members of the Big-4 participating for the past couple of years, 2025 sees a change of captains for both teams. The Europeans will have France's Yannick Noah replacing Bjorn Borg, while Andre Agassi is tasked with replacing John McEnroe for Team Rest of the World.

Four players are now confirmed for each team. Team Rest of World includes Americans Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Tommy Paul, along with Brazilian young star João Fonseca.

Ruud's Return: A Laver Cup veteran for Team Europe

The three-time Grand Slam finalist will be participating for the fifth consecutive time in the tournament, having debuted in Boston in 2021 and been part of the European team in London (2022), Vancouver (2023), and Berlin (2024). "The Laver Cup is incredible, bringing together Europe, with its rich tennis history, to take on the rest of the world," said Ruud after his confirmation for the tournament.

So far, the only players who have reached five participations in the tournament are Alexander Zverev and Frances Tiafoe. The German is confirmed for his sixth appearance this year, while American Taylor Fritz – also confirmed a couple of months ago – will be another going for his fifth appearance.

Ruud praises Laver Cup experience: "I love representing Europe... The team aspect is unique"

Casper Ruud currently holds a 4-2 record in the tournament (3-1 in singles, 1-1 in doubles), having been instrumental in the titles won in 2021 and 2024. "I love representing Europe, and doing my best for the whole continent, not just my country. The team aspect is unique – getting to play alongside guys who are usually my rivals and to support each other is something we don’t experience often."

"I’m also really looking forward to playing in front of Yannick and Tim for the first time – they are a dynamic duo and it’s going to be really cool. And, I’m excited to visit San Francisco for the first time. I’m a big Golden State Warriors fan, so playing in Chase Center will be something special."

Captain Noah delighted to have Ruud aboard

Captain Yannick Noah will have his first experience leading Team Europe and was pleased to have Ruud on his team. "Casper is a great competitor who brings experience, passion and composure to the team environment," said Noah. "He understands the spirit of the Laver Cup and is exactly the kind of player you want by your side. I’m delighted he’s back."

For now, only two Team Europe players remain to be confirmed in the coming weeks. The tournament is played one week after the US Open and is included in the ATP calendar. It takes place at the beginning of the Asian swing, in parallel with the ATP 250 Chengdu Open and Hangzhou Open, both in China.
