'There’s still fire in the belly,' Nick Kyrgios intent on giving his fans a lot more to cheer about after a string of ‘bad decisions’

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been away from the tennis court for over a year now. The former World No. 13 has been troubled with his knee injury and wrist injury. Although Kyrgios has undergone surgery, the Australian is still far away from being a match-fit. But as Kyrgios has revealed, there is still fire in the belly.

He says that he is trying hard to get back on the court and has assured his fans that he will return. However, as has been the case in the past few months, Kyrgios has refused to set a timeline for his comeback. The Australian says that he is trying day in and day out to stage a comeback.

Just hang tight. I'll be back on court soon and I'll give you a little bit more to cheer about, that's for sure. Nick Kyrgios said to The AO Show.

Nick Kyrgios also talked about the efforts he is putting in every day and claimed that it is because he still has the hunger to come back and play. However, the Australian does not want to put a timeline because the injury was severe and it is taking time to heal completely.

Like why am I doing all this? Like I don't have to do it, but I'm doing it for some reason. So I know there's still fire in the belly, which is good. I'm hitting for the first time next week, so as soon as I get back out on court, I guess it's just going to be starting up, getting that load back through my wrist and my body. But look, I definitely will be coming back. It's just hard to put an exact date on it because the injury was quite severe. Nick Kyrgios stated about his comeback.

Nick Kyrgios wants to come back and enjoy

Further talking about his ambitions upon his comeback, Nick Kyrgios said that he does not want to be selfish and aspires to reach the Grand Slam finals. The Australian said that he wants to come back and enjoy being back on the tour.

Kyrgios said that he has achieved enough in his career which many athletes fail to do and hence he does not want to be greedy. The 28-year-old declared that he will take his time to return to action but when he is back, he will enjoy his time out there.

I'm getting to the point of my career where I know that I've had a lot of success and many athletes don't even have a quarter the success of that, so it's selfish for me to come back and demand to be making Wimbledon finals again. I'm going to take my time, come back and just enjoy being back out there. Nick Kyrgios said.

Notably, Kyrgios, well-known for his antics on the court, has not won a Grand Slam title yet. He has made it to a Wimbledon final though. The last time the Australian reached a Grand Slam final, Kyrgios made Novak Djokovic‘s life tough.
