It should be another entertaining day of United Cup action. Team Canada, which includes National Bank Open champion Victoria Mboko and last year’s US Open semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime, will face Team Belgium in Sydney. The Canadians have a chance to build on their 3-0 victory over Team China on Saturday.
We here at LWOT predict the other United Cup matches, including Alex de Minaur vs Jakub Mensik and Jasmine Paolini vs Leolia Jeanjean, separately.
Head-to-head: First meeting
It would be wrong to judge whether Auger-Aliassime will achieve success in 2026 based on one match. However, the Canadian’s efficient 6-4, 6-4 victory over Zhang Zhizhen was reminiscent of his impressive form in the final months of 2025. If he serves well, I am confident he will get at least one break from Bergs in each set, and the relentless pressure applied will be hard for the Belgian to manage.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is a fascinating matchup. Mboko’s raw power, athleticism, and talent are already widely known to tennis fans. However, she will face an opponent who is adept at frustrating opponents by using variety and different spins. Adapting to that craftiness and experience could prove challenging for the 19-year-old. Even if she loses, this will probably be a helpful experience for the young star.
Prediction: Mertens in 3
Head-to-head: First meeting
Mertens is by far the most accomplished doubles player in this matchup. She is a five-time Grand Slam champion and two-time WTA Finals winner. Auger-Aliassime and Mboko’s superior natural talent gives them an opportunity, especially since Auger-Aliassime is an adept volleyer. Overall, though, Mertens’ superb understanding of doubles and her ability to guide Bergs with that experience make them the more likely winners.
Prediction: Bergs/Mertens in 2
