Unseeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic won her first-ever Grand Slam title on Saturday, beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the French Open final.
Krejcikova is the third unseeded women's champion in the last five years at Roland Garros. It was only the fifth major tournament in singles for the 25-year-old.

Saturday's surprising final matchup between two first-time Grand Slam finalists was made possible due to the withdrawal of four-time major champion Naomi Osaka, who pulled out after one match to take a mental health break.
Top-ranked Ash Barty also left her second-round match with a left hip injury, and No. 3 Simona Halep did not show up because of a calf injury. Serena Williams fell in the fourth round, and defending champion Iga Swiatek lost in the quarterfinals.
Krejcikova will now try to become the first woman since Mary Pierce in 2000 to win the French Open singles and doubles championships in the same year.
