U.S. Open Announces Punishment For Venus, Serena Williams

The U.S. Open has announced a decision on punishment for Venus and Serena Williams for their decision after their doubles match loss on Friday night.

Venus and Serena Williams played together in women’s doubles at the U.S. Open for the first time since 2022. The legendary tennis sisters were unable to pull out a victory. Venus and Serena lost in an epic three-set match that went to a long tiebreaker.

Following the match, Venus and Serena received an ovation from the crowd. However, they chose to not speak to the media. Speaking with the media is often a requirement for athletes. The Williams sisters have been known to skip out on media obligations, though.

However, the U.S. Open is choosing to not publicly fine the Williams sisters. While the U.S. Open was disappointed by the decision, that’s all the tournament is going to do. There will be no fine or suspension.

“Serena and Venus Williams will NOT be fined for missing press on Friday night – and the USTA were not notified of any injury reason for skipping their obligations,” James Gray shared.
