Renowned tennis journalist shamed for throwing shade at a couple of tennis players for their recent interactions on social media. One of the lead editors of Tennis Channel had recently made a few comments about tennis star Beatriz Haddad Maia that got the fans riled up.
The Brazilian star had posted a picture via Jimmy Photography, where she was seen posing with a bowl of popcorn in her hand. In what seemed like a puzzled look, the tennis player had given a picture-perfect pose. While the post was fabulous, a journalist did not take it in the same way, and sparked a controversial debate online.
Calling the WTA players “clowns”, the journalist had stated that he would like the players to be more stylish than clown-looking. This statement got the fans riled up, who bashed the journalist with his shameful comments.
Victoria's Secret models need to start playing tennis according to some tennis experts. That would be lots of fun...and injuries, I fear posted a fan, bashing the journalist
Many fans followed suit, questioning the journalist’s integrity. With the current involvement of social media in sports, any negative comments receive a lot of counterattacks from the fans, who do not let any critic get away.

Tennis Journalist gets bashed by fans for comment on Beatriz Haddad Maia, might have hinted at other players as well
Renowned Tennis journalist of Tennis Channel gets slammed by the fans after he threw shade on Beatriz Haddad Maia after the Brazilian had posted a picture ahead of her run at Indian Wells.
However, it seems like it was not only the Brazilian who was targeted by the comment, as even Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian woman, who had her name on social issues, had posted the same picture. With the same set of emotions, the Tunisian had posted a picture of herself with a bowl of popcorn.
.@Tennis dot com, your lead editor @DKTNNS just called Beatriz Haddad Maia – one of the top players in the world ‘a clown holding a bowl of popcorn’ because she didn’t pose the way he fantasises them to be like.

Should that person be editing publications for women’s tennis? pic.twitter.com/njHerIEHDZ
Outrageous and disrespectful. These are athletes they deserve to be respected as the athletes they are, they are not expected to be fashion models or sexy, or whatever @DKTNNS wants female athletes to look like.

Totally disrepctful. This is about athletes and not a Vogue shooting.

Clear who the clown is here.

It sounds like women have conform to a certain stereotype.
And how being funny and fun and having a sense of humour opposite to being strong? https://t.co/1hQvbqNM5F
For Gods sake what the hell? @DKTNNS misoginist clwon thats what you are. https://t.co/0FJK8cb25n

The comment could have been a hit at both the players for their pose. Fans were the first to catch hold of the statement and rightfully slammed the journalist. Nonetheless, Haddad-Maia has had a pretty good 2024 so far and would hope to do better in the upcoming Indian Wells. As for Jabeur, the Tunisian hasn’t gotten off to a great start, but she has an excellent record in the mid-year tournaments and would aim at them to get her rankings higher.
