Lorenzo Musetti, being the 18th seed has had to fight it out in New York to stay in the hunt at the 2024 US Open . The Italian has had to play two thrilling and tiring matches. While he beat Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round, Musetti came to this match after playing a tough match against Reilly Opelka in the first round.
The Italian was facing the American for the second time at the Flushing Meadows and memories must have come rushing down. In 2021, Musetti was ousted from the tournament in the third round as Opelka beat him in straight sets. This time, he had to face him in the opening encounter. The pressure had been there but Musetti has lived to it well this season.
He did the same against Opelka, clinching the opening set in a tiebreak. Musetti was immediately pushed back in the second set, with Opelka quickly winning it 6-1. Musetti returned the favor in the third set and then played a close fourth set (7-5) to win the match.
Playing two back-to-back intense matches and spending close to seven hours on the court, Musetti must be exhausted. But he cannot rest yet because Brandon Nakashima is waiting for him in the third round. The American defeated Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
