Spanish star Alejandro Davidovich Fokina booked his place in the last 16 at the Paris Masters. He won against French wildcard Arthur Cazaux 7-6(5), 6-4.

The match was played on Wednesday night. Fans at the La Défense Arena saw a tight first set before the Spaniard pulled away.

Davidovich Fokina is the No. 15 seed in the tournament. His next opponent will be Germany’s Alexander Zverev, the No. 3 seed. In the previous round, he rallied back after losing the first set. He defeated Valentin Royer with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina still waits to break final curse

Joao Fonseca earned the biggest win of his young career in Basel. The 19-year-old defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

This is Fonseca’s second trophy at tour level and his first at an ATP 500 event. His previous title came earlier in the season in Buenos Aires. With this success, he becomes the first Brazilian to win a title above ATP 250 since Gustavo Kuerten in 2001. Fonseca will also move into the top 30 for the first time.

He showed strong control early by taking a quick lead in both sets. After one hour and 25 minutes, he closed out the match and celebrated a major milestone.
