Watch: Alexander Zverev Makes Sarcastic Remark on Jannik Sinner While Spotting Him in Practice at US Open

Both Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev will be playing their third-round matches at the US Open on Saturday (August 30). Sinner is expected to face some challenges as he will be up against 27th seed, Denis Shapovalov, against whom he trails 0-1 in the head-to-head matchups, losing in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open.

Zverev, on the other hand, will be locking horns with 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. He and Sinner are projected to meet in the semifinal.

If this happens, then it will be their first meeting since their clash in this year’s Australian Open final, where the four-time Grand Slam champion denied the German ace his career’s first Major with a straight-set win. During their rest day, Zverev seemed to be making a sarcastic remark on the Italian ace when he spotted the World No.1 during the practice session.

He wants to win 6-0, 6-0, 6-0; otherwise, it’s not enough for him.

Here’s the video:

Since that heartbreaking defeat to Sinner, Sascha was struggling to play consistent tennis, often losing in the early rounds. The only title he clinched this year is the BMW Open by defeating America’s Ben Shelton.

Apart from the Munich Open and the Australian Open finals, the 28-year-old also reached the final of the Stuttgart Open, where he registered his fifth consecutive defeat to Taylor Fritz . Zverev hasn’t yet claimed a Big Title since winning the Paris Masters last year.

Carlos Alcaraz recalls the roller coaster match against Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner met for the fourth time in the quarterfinal of the 2022 US Open. It was their second clash in a Grand Slam tournament following Wimbledon (Sinner won) the same year.

The match, which lasted for five hours and 15 minutes, saw Alcaraz secure a five-set win, and later he reached the final and beat Casper Ruud to win his career’s first Grand Slam title. Alcaraz, after breezing past Luciano Darderi in the third round, revisited the epic clash with his arch-rival.

Well, that was a roller coaster, that match. So, probably, not probably, it was one of the best matches that I’ve played in my career so far. So, just I remember a few things from that match.

Alcaraz now holds a 9-5 head-to-head record over Sinner. Before arriving in New York, the two rivals clashed in the Cincinnati Masters final, but to the disappointment of everyone, the match ended in Alcaraz’s favor because Sinner gave him the walkover as he was sick.

It was a really good highlight. I remember that I ran from side to side during the whole match, five hours and 15 minutes- the second-longest match that I have ever played. So it’s, I mean, I remember that the level from that match was really, really high.

This year, they have already faced four times in the final, twice in Grand Slam events. At the French Open, they met for the first time in a Major final. The match lasted for five hours and 29 minutes and saw Alcaraz save three championship points in the fourth set to defend his title.

They then met in the final of Wimbledon, and Sinner avenged his French Open defeat with a four-set win to lift his career’s first title at SW19. Sinner and Alcaraz can meet at the US Open as well, but for that, they have to reach the summit clash.

The five-time Grand Slam champion will be locking horns with Arthur Rinderknech in the fourth round. While Sinner is chasing his third title of the season, after victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, the 22-year-old has played eight finals and clinched six titles this season.
