There's lot of room for fun at the ATP 2025 Hamburg Open, as some of the top tennis stars took a break from the courts to enjoy an entertaining rowing challenge on Alster Lake. Among them was 2020 tournament champion Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Alliasime.
The first round completed and headed into the Round of 16, some of the tennis players took a moment to relax a little bit, although they didn't stop competing.
Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Alliasime teamed up to face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Sebastian Baez in a friendly but spirited rowing race organized by the Hamburg Rowing Club. The players, all top seeds in the tournament, showed great teamwork and humor, as they tried to keep balance while synchronizing their strokes.
The Russian described the experience as "scary", but fun, as nearly couldn't stop laughing throughout the activity.
Rublev also reflected on his 2020 championship during the COVID-19 period, a moment which he recalled to be really difficult to compete without being able to enjoy the usual tournament atmosphere.
The day on the water worked out perfectly, not only giving the players the oportunity to bond but also that three of the four participants won their respective opening matches, with only Baez failing to secure a spot in the next round.
Rublev defeated Damir Dzumhur in straight sets in a what was his first victory since Barcelona. Now, the former world's No. 6 will face German wildcard Justin Engel.
The top seeded Alexander Zverev also started strong with a win over Aleksandar Kovacevic and will now face France's Alexandre Muller. A battle between him and the third seeded Rublev could be a real thing if both of them manage to advance to the tournament's semi-finals.
