Second seed Aryna Sabalenka secured her spot in the US Open third round after a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Lucia Bronzetti. The Australian Open champion is aiming to win her third Grand Slam in New York.

After the match, Sabalenka celebrated her victory by engaging in a heartwarming conversation with a young fan who had been supporting her throughout the match. Sabalenka took a photograph with the young fan before signing autographs with the rest of the crowd, all smiles as she interacted with her supporters. She is looking to win her first Grand Slam title outside Australia.

In the third round, Sabalenka will face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Iva Jovic. Jovic, the 16-year-old tennis sensation, has been the biggest buzz on the internet from the women’s side at the US Open so far.

Aryna Sabalenka extends her winning streak to seven by reaching the US Open third-round

World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka cruised into the third round of the US Open after defeating Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday. Sabalenka, who won the Cincinnati Open last week, has now extended her winning streak to seven matches. The 26-year-old has won all 14 sets she’s played during this streak, with only one player managing to win more than six games against her.

Sabalenka will face either No.29 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova or American teenager Iva Jovic in the third round. Last year’s runners-up has reached the quarterfinals or better in her last seven Grand Slam appearances. After successfully defending her title at the Australian Open in January, Sabalenka is aiming to become the first woman to win both hard-court majors in a single season since Angelique Kerber did in 2016.

In her second-round match, Sabalenka fired 24 winners past the 76th-ranked Bronzetti. She landed 73 percent of her first serves and did not face a single break point. The match was over in just 60 minutes. With this victory, Sabalenka improved her record at the US Open to 23-6, making it her most successful Grand Slam in terms of match wins. Among active players, she has the second-highest winning percentage at hard-court Slams, trailing only Naomi Osaka.
