Coco Gauff revealed her funniest Instagram DM, which involved her very first interaction with Carlos Alcaraz. The American admitted she ignored a message from the Spaniard years ago when he congratulated her on a successful Wimbledon campaign.

Gauff and Alcaraz are practically from the same generation, with less than a year separating them. Gauff, born in 2004, and Alcaraz, born in 2003, have crossed paths early in their careers at various tournaments, which prompted Alcaraz's initial message to his peer.

Gauff had an earlier breakthrough on the Tour than Alcaraz. Back in 2019, she made a notable appearance at just 15 years old, reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon and famously defeating Venus Williams along the way. Gauff quickly captured the attention of the tennis world, and all eyes have been on her ever since.

However, at that time, Alcaraz had not yet made his professional debut, and despite being touted as one of the most talented juniors of his generation, he hadn't yet transitioned to the professional circuit. When Alcaraz saw Gauff's success at Wimbledon, he sent her a message on social media, reminding her of a time they had met while playing junior tournaments, as Gauff explained.

“I think I did well in Wimbledon in 2019 and Alcaraz actually DM’d me saying ‘Hey Coco, do you remember me?’ Because we apparently won Junior Fed the same time, both of our countries. And I didn’t remember him, so I didn’t respond.”

“Obviously like 4, 5 or 6 years later he won US Open, then I DM’d him congratulations,” she added, laughing. “But if you look at our DM’s our spread is like, ‘hey do you remember me?’ and me DM’d him congratulations,” she added, laughing. “I felt bad that I didn’t respond.”

Currently, both players, ranked world No. 2, are in full swing at Roland Garros and are among the top favorites in their respective draws. Alcaraz is already in the third round after defeating Fábián Marozsán, while Gauff awaits her second-round match against the Czech Tereza Valentova.
