Holger Rune ‘s 2024 season so far has been a bumpy ride. He is still awaiting his first title of the season despite making some good runs. The 20-year-old has also dropped out of the Top-10 of the ATP singles rankings due to the mixed results.

While it has been more than two months since he played in Australia, he was recently featured in a social media video of the Australian Open account. Rune had paid a visit to the famous Melbourne Zoo.

He was followed around by the cameras, who took videos and pictures for their vlog as he enjoyed the outing with his team. The kid within him was certainly overjoyed as he praised the different animals that were in the zoo.

Rune compared it to the zoo in his native as well. During the visit, he was also asked what kind of animal does he think of himself to be to which the youngster had a brilliant answer.

I would be a lion. I'm lazy when I have to be lazy. But when I have to attack, I'm very attackable. said Holger Rune

Rune made a good start in Australia this year by reaching the finals at the 2024 Brisbane International. He was, however, defeated by Grigor Dimitrov, denying him his fifth career title. Following this, Rune skipped all the other warm-up events before the all-important 2024 Australian Open.

But he was stunned in the second round in what was one of the upsets of the Grand Slam event. Having made the quarter-finals in both the French Open and Wimbledon, the Dane is yet to match the feat at the US Open and the Happy Slam in Melbourne.

Holger Rune shows heart in Monte Carlo despite umpiring blunders

After a dismal hard court leg in the first quarter of the season, Rune turned up quite well at the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters. Having finished runner-up last year, he had big points to defend, and that surely brought out good performances from him.

With a bye in the first round, he played directly in the second round. All his matches went into the third set, but he grinded out the wins, nonetheless. The Dane went on to reach the quarter-finals before losing to the in-form Jannik Sinner.

The duel with the reigning Australian Open winner was quite controversial. The crowd was fully against the Dane and he responded in style after being heckled for way too long. The chair umpire also made a few controversial calls that went against the 20-year-old.

Despite the result, he showed a lot of courage during his stay in Monte Carlo. He will hope to continue with the fine form this week at the ATP-250 event in Munich. He will be playing as the two-time defending champion, having defeated Botic Van de Zandschulp in finals on both occasions.
