Watch: Jannik Sinner repeats history as Novak Djokovic loses first set at the 2024 Australian Open, eleven years after a humiliating defeat against Stan Wawrinka

Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner continued his fine form against defending champion Novak Djokovic as the 22-year-old emphatically won the first set of the semifinal of the 2024 Australian Open. Sinner completely dominated Djokovic right from the start, as he raced to a 3-0 lead in no time.

Although the Serbian won the fourth game, Sinner ensured that it remained the only game Djokovic won in the first set. The Italian again won three games on the trot to throw Djokovic completely off track. Sinner won the opening set 6-1 and scripted history as it was the first time in eleven years that the Serbian lost the opening set.

The Italian served with sheer power and made Djokovic move across the court for every volley. For the winning point, Sinner fired a serve in the center of the court. While Djokovic managed to return it, the Italian hit another powerful shot, slightly towards Djokovic’s right.

Although the Serbian managed to put his racket to the ball, Djokovic could not control his shot, and it was the game for Sinner. The Italian then celebrated it with a fist pump.
