Andy Murray is one of tennis’ most iconic modern-day players, yet he has made the transition to golf seamlessly.
Clearly a hugely driven individual, his desire to excel no matter what he participates in has helped him swiftly become quite the keen player on the golf course rather than the tennis court.
And, with nothing but time on his side following his retirement in 2024, Murray has quickly become one of the most impressive celebrity golfers about.
This was perfectly exemplified by his handicap, which was revealed at the back end of last year.
Having excelled in October’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Pro-Am, his handicap was compared to a handful of other celebrity golfers.
Such was his fine form, Murray even revealed a lofty ambition just last year too: “I want to try and play in the regional qualifying [of The Open] at some stage.”
And, with a handicap of just two already, he should fancy his chances.
“A couple of my friends have done it, and it would just be a fun thing to do if you got to the level where you’re able to do that, I would do it, but I certainly don’t think I would have any chance of qualifying for The Open.
“I’m fully aware of how good the players that play in those events are and how good the pros are in comparison to amateurs. Even guys that play off +2, 3 are miles off what these guys are.”
Murray has spoken at length about his love for golf and his desperation to keep improving his game.
In fact, the Scotsman has even outlined his desire to even become a caddy for a professional on the tour, citing Robert MacIntyre as one potential partner in the future.
He recently admitted: “Well, I love golf, and I think if you love that sport, I think it would be a great job.
“If you were working with a top golfer and being there when they’re having a great moment on the course, and feeling like you can help a little bit with decisions or things like that, I think it’d be a brilliant job.”
