Aryna Sabalenka is seeking to become the first woman to play in three Grand Slam finals in a single year since Angelique Kerber did that in 2016. The Belarusian star has had an impressive season by every standard and is now aiming to reach her first Wimbledon final. However, she faces a tough test against Amanda Anisimova in the semi-final.

Anisimova became the youngest American woman (23) to reach the semifinals of Wimbledon since Serena Williams in 2004. The American star is also in her first Wimbledon semi-finals, and she will be up against World No.1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenka for the first time on grass.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Preview

Aryna Sabalenka opened her grass-court season at the Berlin Tennis Open, where she reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets. She then arrived at Wimbledon, beating Carson Branstine and Marie Bouzkova before overcoming a tough test against Emma Raducanu in the third round.

Elise Mertens tried to stop Sabalenka in the fourth round, but the 27-year-old used her powerful serves to get past the Belgian star, reaching her 11th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals. She then went on to face Laura Siegemund, who was a tough nut to crack, forcing Sabalenka to come from behind for the first time at the 2025 Wimbledon to beat her 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and reach the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Amanda Anisimova opened her grass-court campaign at the Queen’s Club Championships. There, she had to get past few of the top 10 stars, Qinwen Zheng and Emma Navarro, to reach the final. But she couldn’t claim the title as she lost to Tatjana Maria in straight sets in the final of the tournament.

She then got to the quarter-finals of the Berlin Tennis Open before arriving at the All England Club. At Wimbledon, she has dropped only two sets beating the likes of Yulia Putintseva, Renata Zarazua, Dalma Galfi, and Linda Noskova. On Tuesday (July 9), she ended Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s run in 6-1, 7-6(9) to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Prediction

Aryna Sabalenka has been to two Grand Slam finals this season, more than any player on tour, and she’s now seeking her third. She has been to the last three major finals in the women’s circuit. Even though she has been able to win only one in the process, if she does reach the Wimbledon final it will be a remarkable achievement for the World No.1.

But she faced a tough test against Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals as she has only beaten the American thrice in her career. She holds an underwhelming 3-5 lead in their head-to-head record. However, she won their last meeting at the Roland Garros in straight sets in the fourth round.

Anisimova has been on fire on grass this season, winning 11 matches already, more than Sabalenka. She has also been to at least the quarter-finals of all three tournaments she has played on the grass-court. The only thing missing from her impressive run is a title. She has shown previously that she can beat Sabalenka; she will hope to do it again, sealing her place in the top 10 of the WTA by next week.

Match Prediction: Amanda Anisimova to win in three sets.
