Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic are into their maiden Wimbledon semifinal. Swiatek has scripted history by becoming the first Polish player to reach the semifinals or better of every Grand Slam. She is also the fourth active female player to do so after Victoria Azarenka, Karolina Pliskova, and Aryna Sabalenka.

Bencic, on the other hand, is the next Swiss tennis player to reach the Wimbledon semifinals after Roger Federer in 2019. She also joined Martina Hingis as the only Swiss woman to reach this round at Wimbledon in the Open era. Hingis clinched the title in 1997 and reached the semifinal in 1998. This marks Bencic’s second Grand Slam semifinal after the 2019 US Open, where she lost to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu.

Iga Swiatek vs. Belinda Bencic: Match Preview

In her junior days, Iga Swiatek was the Wimbledon girls’ champion in 2018. Since the start of her professional career, it is, however, clay that has been her most successful surface, followed by hard court. Things turned after the Roland Garros last year, following which the Pole has been on a title drought, and many hoped she would have her comeback on clay.

However, even the clay swing went by without her reaching a final. She lost many ranking points as she failed to defend several titles this year and dipped to World No. 8 after the clay swing. Perhaps the comeback the five-time Grand Slam champion is strongly yearning for will be made on the grass swing, the surface least expected by everyone.

The 24-year-old reached her maiden grass-court final at the Bad Homburg Open, breaking her year-long curse of losing in the semifinals. She is now in fine form, reaching her maiden Wimbledon semifinal by conceding just one set on the way.

Belinda Bencic is the only unseeded player in the women’s Wimbledon semifinal. Bencic has had a good season so far. After taking a maternity leave in September 2023 for the birth of her daughter, she returned to tour in October 2024 and, as a wildcard, and later won the Abu Dhabi Open in February 2025.

Bencic has reached four grass court finals in her career, winning one of them at the Eastbourne Open in 2015. She has had a spectacular run at SW19 this year, defeating eighteenth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets in the Round of 16 and seventh seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets as well in the quarterfinal.

Iga Swiatek vs. Belinda Bencic: Match Prediction

Iga Swiatek leads the head-to-head 3-1 against Belinda Bencic. They last met in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2023, where the Pole defeated Bencic in a tightly contested three-set battle.

The match prediction between both is a difficult one to make, as they haven’t played each other in two years. Both of them are playing perhaps the best grass court tennis of their careers. Bencic, who has been very good on her defensive skills, has defeated younger and higher-ranked players on her way, including upsetting Mirra Andreeva, who was considered a strong favorite to win the quarterfinal match. With her experience, the Swiss has the ability to defeat Swiatek too.

Swiatek will have to effectively target Bencic’s weakness, the backhand, something which even Andreeva tried but couldn’t get enough of. Swiatek’s strongest point, perhaps, in the Championships is her first serve. She is the player with the highest percentage of first serve points won in the women’s singles tournament this year (77.4%)

Match Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
