Alexander Bublik concluded a dream week with the Halle Open title, his second ATP 500, by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. The Kazakh has experienced a career resurgence in recent weeks, showcasing a high level of tennis that allowed him to defeat World No. 1 Jannik Sinner along the way.

The 28-year-old tennis player managed to break a streak of 6 consecutive losses against Medvedev in the Halle final and returned to the Top 30 after a year. In his acceptance speech, Bublik had words of praise for Medvedev, which were noted by six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker.

The former German tennis player—one of the most successful on grass courts, with three Wimbledon titles—paid close attention to Bublik's great week. The former World No. 1 highlighted the classy words Bublik had for his opponent after overcoming him in the final.

"First of all, Daniil, I’ve been cursed to play you forever and never won a set in my life today I’m happy to get through. You’re a great champion, I wish you a lot of success," commented the former World No. 16 after claiming the title. "To beat you here it’s a privilege for me. You’ve been working with your team forever, have been winning slams and I wish you a lot more success and a lot more slams.”

Boris Becker witnessed the tournament final live and even attended the awards ceremony. Hours after the match, Becker took to social media to highlight Bublik's words at the ceremony. "Wonderful words from Sascha about his long-time nemesis! Well done playing and talking…"

Bublik still has one last challenge before Wimbledon, as he will play the Eastbourne Open, where he is set to debut this Tuesday against Argentine Francisco Comesaña. The Kazakh—who secured a seeded spot at Wimbledon at the last minute—will seek to maintain his great form with one final grass-court tournament before the third Grand Slam of the year.
