While Carlos Alcaraz struggled to get past Fabio Fognini, it wasn't the same for another Italian as Jannik Sinner eased past Luca Nardi at Wimbledon on Tuesday afternoon 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.

Alcaraz had a gruelling five-set battle against Fabio Fognini on Monday while Sinner eased past his compatriot Nardi in one hour, 48 minutes. He saw his way through 5/13 break points he earned and did not face break points at all in a true show of his domination at SW19.

On a day when temperatures are set to reach as high as 34 degrees, he wasted no time in easing through and already knows his opponent in the form of Aussie ace, Aleksandar Vukic.

“I’m very happy to come back here. It’s such a special place for me,” said Sinner on-court afterwards. “Playing against an Italian is for us very unfortunate, but one has to go through, so I’m happy that it is me. The atmosphere as always is amazing, thanks so much. I know it’s very hot, very humid. I don’t remember the last time it was this weather in London.”

The level of Sinner was perhaps a question going into the tournament. He lost to Alexander Bublik two weeks ago at Halle albeit that was no disgrace given Bublik won the title and is often a demon in the run-up to Wimbledon.

But Sinner often produces it when it counts and did so again in this case. Vukic saw off Tseng Chun-Hsin 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) so had to come through a real grueller to set up a tie with the World No.1.

While there was doubts as Alcaraz struggled with Fabio Fognini, Sinner dispelled any himself as he moved through to the second round and past his first test as the weather calms down in the coming days.
