World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty beats Karolina Pliskova to clinch first Wimbledon title

Australian tennis star Ashleigh Barty has won the Wimbledon women's singles title, defeating Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7(4-7), 6-3. 

The 25-year-old became the first No. 1 ranked woman to win Wimbledon since Serena Williams accomplished the feat in 2016. She also became the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon since Evonne Goolagong in 1980.

This is Barty's first singles title at Wimbledon and the second Grand Slam singles win of her career. She also won the 2019 French Open.

After the win, Barty credited Pliskova for the grueling match. She also thanked the fans for making the victory feel special.
